Today’s Panchang and good time

Today’s Panchang for your town on one screen: the tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana with their end times, sunrise and sunset, Rahu Kaal, the best time to start something, any festival, and a short personal line when you add your birth details.

How to use it

  1. Allow location, or type your town, so sunrise and every period are calculated for it.
  2. Read the day at a glance: good time, time to avoid and today’s Panchang.
  3. Add birth details for a personal line about your Moon sign, and set a daily reminder if you like.

The five limbs of the Panchang

  • Tithi: the lunar day, one of 30 in a lunar month, in the Shukla or Krishna paksha.
  • Vara: the weekday, ruled by a planet.
  • Nakshatra: the Moon’s lunar mansion, one of 27.
  • Yoga: one of 27 combinations of the Sun’s and Moon’s longitudes.
  • Karana: half of a tithi; Vishti (Bhadra) is traditionally avoided for new work.

Rahu Kaal and the good time

Rahu Kaal is one eighth of the daylight period, at a different part of the day for each weekday, and is traditionally avoided for beginnings. Because it is measured from local sunrise to sunset, it is different in every town, which is why the app asks for yours. The good time shown is drawn from Abhijit muhurat and the favourable Choghadiya periods of the day.

Questions people ask

Why does Rahu Kaal differ between cities?

It is one eighth of the time between local sunrise and sunset, so it moves with the sunrise of each town.

When does the Panchang day begin?

At local sunrise. A tithi or nakshatra that ends after sunrise names the day, and the end time is shown.

Is there a Panchang page for my city?

Yes. Daily Panchang pages exist for more than a hundred cities, with past and future dates.
